New Plymouth Model Aero Club - Model Aero Club

Where We Fly

Our club operates and maintains two flying sites, Radio Control and Control Line. These facilities are registered with NZMAA and are not available for public use. They are only accessible by club members as gate access codes are required for both sites. However, on known flying days guests are made welcome. We also fly at Lake Ratapiko, Lake Cowley (float planes) and Back Beach (slope soaring).

Ferndene Radio Control Site

Driving South from New Plymouth, take the first intersection on the right past Egmont Village (Upland Road) and drive 100 meters to the entrance of the Ferndene Quarry site on the left. At the Quarry docket office vere slightly left to follow the track up and along the airstrip. Under no circumstances are you to enter the quarry. Follow the metal track, staying on it all the way (this is a working airstrip) until you arrive at the carpark at the end.

Water Treatment Plant Control Line Site

Driving South from New Plymouth, turn left into the New Plymouth Water Treatment Plant entrance and take the right-hand gate. Drive around the back of the plant and through the second gate to the flying circles carpark. Gate codes are needed to access this site.
